Take a Break from the Lake with These 4 Muskoka Breweries

Occasionally your group or family will need a short break from the seemingly never-ending lake fun in the Muskoka Lakes District. Avoid packed restaurants and excessively loud bars with pit stops at these four regional breweries. We have hundreds of spectacular cottages for rent in Ontario, perfect for couples, families, and groups alike. Regardless of which Muskoka District Rentals property you chose for your upcoming getaway to stunning Muskoka, you’ll always be a short trek to one of the area’s premier breweries.

Muskoka Brewery - Bracebridge
Five kilometers south of downtown Bracebridge rests a Muskoka Lakes staple: Muskoka Brewery . Muskoka Brewery has a small space in a mid-sized industrial business building on a secluded stretch of road east of Lake Muskoka. Don’t let the Gravenhurst Plastics factory fool you; the taproom has a repurposed rustic appearance with unique hanging rope lights and printed wallpaper. The outdoor patio overlooks a serene field. Buy a flight and sip on three of their best beers. The flights are served on repurposed oars. Muskoka Brewery began brewing beer in 1996 with a Canadian-style cream ale which went on to win a gold medal at the Canadian Brewing Festival. That original cream ale is still available today, as well as many delicious varieties.

Hopheads will love Muskoka’s dry-hopped Mad Tom IPA with Chinook and Centennial hops. Perfect for a warm winter evening, the Shinnicked Stout is silky smooth dark ale infused with coffee from Muskoka Roastery . Their Craft Lager is a crushable summer favourite here in Canada. The Pointe on Brandy Lake , a breathtaking Brandy Lake cottage, is a short drive from Bracebridge. The Pointe has quintessential lake access, a gorgeous deck, large balcony, and a vintage cottage interior with an original fireplace.

Sawdust City Brewing - Gravenhurst
Sawdust City Brewing is a fantastic craft brewery in downtown Gravenhurst. With 18 draughts, many guests choose to split a ten-beer sampler and share some of Sawdust City’s signature poutine. They have six “core brews” and 12 seasonal taps available seven days a week. Ideal for a hot summer afternoon, the Gateway Kolsch is a crushable, bright yellow ale that pairs well with Sawdust City’s meat and cheese sampler. The Pobody’s Nerfect Summer IPA, a bitter-hop mashup, just hit stores. One of the great features of their brewery is its massive liquor store and merchandise shop. Share a flight and some poutine, then grab a six-pack and a t-shirt to go. Our Lake Muskoka Family Compound is a scenic 22-kilometer lake drive from downtown Gravenhurst. The family compound is one of the best cottages for rent in Ontario. Enjoy supreme lake-view seclusion and two acres of wilderness at this Muskoka hidden gem.

Lake of Bays Brewing - Baysville
Lake of Bays Brewing has one of the best beer gardens in Ontario. Lake of Bays’ name is derived from the large lake chain north of Baysville. From far away, the brewery looks like an ice cream shop or a cafe. Space is limited inside, so we recommend planning a brewery tour and a pint afterward in the beer garden. Regardless of the season, their Switchback Pilsner is worth a gulp. The Switchback is a German-style ale with subtle hints of citrus and unmistakable graininess. An often-overlooked beer style is the black IPA. Lake of Bays has a strong and hoppy black IPA named The West Wind. Subtlety was thrown out the window on this beer. The West Wind packs a hoppy punch and an intense, roasty malt flavour. Our newest Muskoka property in Huntsville is only a 22-minute drive from Lake of Bays. Falcon View is a new 2018 cottage with an incredible fire pit, massive deck, a modern interior, and prime lake access.

Clear Lake Brewing - Torrance
Clear Lake Brewing completely transformed a rickety, old commercial building into a fun hangout in the small village of Torrance, five kilometers south of lively Bala. Clear Lake is one of the newest breweries in Ontario, but that doesn’t mean their beer doesn’t impress. They’re best known for the 2.5% ABV Cran Radler that locals have fallen in love with, but their American-style IPA is their prized jewel. The American IPA is a balanced and fruity brew with pineapple and mango flavours with hints of pear and watermelon. Come for the refreshing beer and stay for the live music and friendly beeristas. Book a week-long stay at our Spring Water Bay Lake Muskoka cottage, and you’ll be a short drive from Clear Lake Brewing. This cottage has an authentic cabin-feel with vaulted ceilings, a hot tub, and a massive dock.
